Oxford Deserves a Leader Who Understands the Whole Job — Not Just the Finances

(Oxford, CT) —  Recent statements from the Democratic candidate for First Selectwoman focus almost entirely on the town’s Board of Finance. While fiscal oversight is essential, the role of First Selectman is about much more than managing balance sheets.

As Republicans, we believe Oxford needs a First Selectman who understands the entire job, one who can lead, collaborate, and plan for the town’s future. The First Selectman must work closely with all boards, commissions and departments from Planning and Zoning to Public Works, Police, Fire, and Education to keep Oxford safe, strong, and moving forward.

A narrow focus on financial criticism overlooks the broader leadership our community expects and deserves. True leadership means setting priorities, managing growth responsibly, protecting open space, maintaining infrastructure, supporting our schools, and ensuring transparency at every step. It’s about balancing fiscal discipline with vision, teamwork, and progress.

Our current administration has delivered strong results, maintaining a solid Aa2 Moody’s bond rating, improving town services, securing major grants that strengthen infrastructure and safety, and managing our budget responsibly while investing in Oxford’s future.

We remain committed to smart planning, responsible spending, and open communication with residents and all town boards. Oxford’s next leader must continue to focus on building the town’s future — not just rehashing financial talking points.

Oxford deserves leadership that sees the big picture finances, yes, but also growth, safety, education, and quality of life. That’s what our Republican team stands for.

Vote Row B — for proven leadership and a stronger Oxford.

Oxford, CT Receives Strong Credit Rating from Moody’s

Oxford, Conn-Moody’s Ratings has assigned the Town of Oxford an Aa2 credit rating, recognizing the town's strong economy, prudent financial management, and resilient budget practices.

This rating applies to Oxford’s outstanding general obligation bonds, including issues from 2017 through 2020. The Aa2 rating reflects Moody’s confidence in Oxford’s stable financial outlook, responsible governance, and ability to manage long-term liabilities.

Despite prior weather-related disruptions and delayed financial reporting from fiscal year 2024, Oxford has since provided updated information showing solid recovery. Moody’s noted the town’s strong liquidity, budget surpluses, and effective governance as key strengths.

“Oxford’s full property value per resident is well above average, and long-term liabilities remain manageable,” the report stated.

Moody’s did not issue a rating outlook, due to the town’s current debt levels. However, Oxford could be upgraded if it maintains high fund balances and sees a surge in wealth and income levels.

Quick Facts:
- Rating Assigned: Aa2
- Applies To: General Obligation Bonds (2017–2020)
- Key Strengths: Strong local economy, high income levels, responsible budgeting
- Watch Factors:
 - Upgrade: If liquidity and reserves exceed 50% of revenues
 - Downgrade: If reserves fall below 15%, or debt exceeds 300% of revenues

Vote Strength in Leadership – Vote Republican in November

To the Editor:

There seems to be a bit of political fatigue here in oxford. Election season is upon us again after having experienced a republican primary cycle just a few weeks ago.

Yes, regardless of your political affiliation, we were all exposed to the ubiquitous yard signs, the social media rants and the endless politiical dialogue. Nevertheless, here we go again.

As the selectmen primary cycle turned out, the Temple/Jensen team won a hard fought and decisive victory over their challengers, despite some unusual circumstances surrounding the contest.

Vote Strength in Leadership – Vote Republican in November

To the Editor:

Oxford has the opportunity this November to vote for strength, steadiness, and proven leadership by supporting the Republican ticket.

As the saying goes, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

That’s exactly what Oxford did in the aftermath of the devastating August 2024 flood under the direction of First Selectman George Temple and Selectman Arnie Jensen.

Much of our town was crippled — roads washed out, culverts destroyed, and infrastructure severely damaged.

Support Jack Kiley and Paula Jensen for Reelection to Oxford Board of Finance

To the Editor:

As a long-time Oxford resident and Naugatuck Valley community member, I strongly support Jack Kiley for re-election to the Oxford Board of Finance. During his tenure as the Chairman of the Finance Board, Jack has maintained low taxes for Oxford while still properly funding all town departments. In addition, he advocated for updates to the Oxford community, including new HVAC systems in two Oxford school buildings and the road maintenance program.

Jack and his wife, Sandy, have lived in Oxford for 50 years and raised 3 children that were educated in Oxford Schools. Besides the Board of Finance, Jack has also served on the Inland/Wetlands Board and was a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Additionally, he served as President of the Valley United Way.
